The Richmond County School System is proud to recognize Ms. Jean Taylor, Goshen Elementary’s STEAM teacher, for receiving the 2019 Georgia STEM STAR Scholar Award. Only 23 Georgia teachers received this recognition which comes along with $500 to use in continued STEM education initiatives. The Georgia Youth Science and Technology Centers present these awards each year to recognize outstanding work in engaging and improving student learning in STEM disciplines. RCSS is honored to have Ms. Taylor share her talents and innovation with our students.
To showcase STEAM initiatives and its agricultural focus, Ms. Taylor and the Goshen staff recently hosted “Farm Day on the Field.” This collaborative event included Georgia Grown, Nutrition Services, and local farmers. Students were able to view animals, enjoy a hayride, explore a maze, and manipulate several crops and herbs. The day of the event, all school lunches were prepared using locally raised crops in celebration of the Locally Grown and Feed My School initiatives. Students were also able to participate in several STEAM challenges. Students and staff enjoyed every moment of this fun-filled day!
