The 2016 Skills Challenge was held on November 17 as a workforce development event involving students from 9 high schools. Students competed in masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and beginner/advanced/fabrication welding. Scott Clark, R.W. Allen’s President and Chief Operating Officer, began this event several years ago after speaking with local construction industry high school teachers. The Skills Challenge is designed as a regional competition between high schools that takes place before the state competition. Five Hephzibah High School students participated in this year’s Skills Challenge competition with their teacher and advisor, Andrew Langham.
