"Where does honey come from?" asked the first-graders of Monte Sano Elementary as they were given samples of honey from local beekeepers. The students experienced first-hand locally grown, fresh food options as part of their Feed My School for a Week initiative. Feed My School for a Week is a partnership between the Richmond County School System and the Georgia Department of Agriculture to educate students about the nutritional quality of locally grown food. Students spent the morning tasting orchard apples, petting farm animals, and tasting local honey options as part of their field day experience.
